I am just starting down the path of a 7mgte swap into my 4runner and I still trying to decide what tranny/transfer case I am going to be running with. I found that OTT industries has an adapter to mate a SM465 4 speed up to a 22re with the use of a W56 bellhousing ( http://www.ottindustries.com/22re-sm.htm ) I know that you can bolt up a W56 to the 7m via a W58 bellhousing (right?), so theoretically couldn't you use a W58 bellhousing + OTT adapter + SM465 and have a SM465 mated to a 7mgte. I don't know if the input shafts will work or what I could do as far as swapping shafts in and out and whatnot. what do you guys think?

Interesting...the clutch disc they supply isn't going to be nearly strong enough behind a 7mgte and would be used with a 22RE/W56 flywheel, so your going to have to source a strong clutch setup (ie: 6 puck) with the proper input spline count for an SM465 but usable on a 5/7MGE/W58 flywheel. Or the other option you mentioned of swapping input shafts if possible.

Looks like it might work if you overcome one of these obstacles. Good luck.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get a clutch custom made? HAHA I bet that costs a pretty penny! Do you guys think it would be worth it to try and a) find a clutch that would work or b) figure out if the input shafts are swappable? How would one find out if the input shafts are interchangeable without actually getting the two input shafts and just doing a trial and error of sorts? The SM465 is stout enough I'm sure for a 7mgte considering it came behind 1-ton trucks and its got a granny low first gear which would be good for some wheelin' (which I plan to do with it, obviously) and since they came on trucks from '68 thru the early '90's they are plentiful and a dime a dozen.
